The success story of senz°, the challenges and the future ahead
How it all started
We started our senz° adventure in 2006, after being fed up with traditional umbrellas. The goal of three regular guys, design students from Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, was to design the ultimate umbrella. One that would get rid of those well known umbrella struggles that frustrate us all the time. Right after our first sketches, we found out that it had taken over three thousand years of umbrella history to get to this point.
We never saw the weather as a reason to stop our journey, but as a challenge to be innovative. Being sick and tired of the massive number of crappy umbrellas on the streets, we had a dream of rearranging the sky for good. We did! We took the traditional image of an umbrella and turned it into an asymmetrical eight-legged object. Not because we want it to look special, but because it makes senz°: A unique form that follows function.
Stormy weather
The success story will sound familiar to many, but senz° has also weathered turbulent storms. Every success story has its challenges, but the key to success is to follow your dream and make it come true.
In 2021, an independent family owned company founded in 1952 took over the senz° brand and patents, in order to continue to grow. The Willemen family has a long history in the high-end umbrella industry. From the very beginning in 2006, the founders of senz° have been in contact to the present day with Peter Willemen and Ingrid Verschueren-Willemen, who are now the third generation within the holding company WLM International.
The journey goes on and senz° is changing the sky again and inspiring everyone to enjoy the weather!
A new wind
Where are we today. Although some people may have to get used to the asymmetric shape, we dare to say that the senz° is the best umbrella you can imagine. We stood the test of time and has become a leading and inspiring brand by being innovative and outstanding in performance as well as aesthetics. We are continuing our ambition to be the world's best and most loved umbrella brand. To move forward, we use the weather as inspiration.
That's why, in addition to our well-known storm umbrellas, we have recently launched the smallest version senz°. With our usual distinctive asymmetric shape, this senz° combines durability and functionality with extremely compact dimensions. It easily fits in your pocket, whether you're walking home from the station or taking a city trip.
